A popular TikTok user has recounted how she was detained for two days after accusing Nollywood actress Dayo Amusa of living with HIV.
In a viral video posted on Monday, the TikToker, whose handle was not immediately verified, alleged that she was picked up and held in custody following the claim, which had earlier sparked outrage on social media.
According to her, the arrest came shortly after she made a video where she insinuated that the actress was HIV-positive. She said she was detained for 48 hours before being released.
“They locked me up for two days because of what I said about Dayo Amusa,” she stated in the clip, adding that she felt unfairly treated for expressing her opinion online.
Dayo Amusa, a prominent Yoruba movie star, has yet to respond publicly to the TikToker’s fresh claims. However, her associates had earlier dismissed the HIV allegation as “malicious and damaging.”
The incident has reignited debate about defamation, cyberbullying, and the growing trend of celebrities pursuing legal or police action against online commentators in Nigeria.
Legal experts say persons found guilty of spreading false information online can face lawsuits or criminal charges under Nigeria’s cybercrime laws.
